Blackmore Ricotech is 20 years old in 2016. We’re celebrating this occasion with a charity fund raising ride on an upcycled bike…
On the eve of our 20th birthday, one of our founding directors is setting off on a charity bike ride from Blackmore Vale, to the shores of Black Sea at Odessa, Ukraine.
Leaving Chitterne at 11.00am today Simon Barfoot began his 30-day, 2,300 mile journey through 10 countries, not on a state-of-the-art tourer, but an old recycled mountain bike.
A keen cyclist, Simon is riding solo and unsupported to raise money for two worthy causes: Salisbury-based Hope and Homes for Children (HHC), and Nick Hole, a young man from Sherborne who suffered a heart attack from undiagnosed Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC).
Simon’s route from the UK takes in France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia, Romania and Moldova before arriving in the Ukraine in mid-July. Simon has previously cycled from Lands End to John o’Groats and back again, but this will be his biggest challenge to date.
“I wanted to do something that linked to Blackmore Ricotech, had a recycling theme, and also set me a genuine challenge. Blackheath, the Black Country, Blackpool and the Black Forest weren’t far enough away. I needed something tougher.
“I’m excited. This opportunity will allow me to raise money for two causes I am passionate about. I’m hoping to be able to make a difference both here in the UK, and overseas as well.”
You can follow Simon’s progress and make a donation on his blog at www.blackmore2blacksea.com.
We’ll let you know how he gets on.
