On Thursday 3rd March Blackmore Ricotech MD, Jon Blake, held a workshop for pupils and teachers of Monkton Combe School near Bath, to help them understand the three Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Jon demonstrated how Blackmore Ricotech focuses primarily on reusing IT and electrical items and recycling anything that is redundant, end of life or faulty but still may have some further purpose instead of scrapping. The feedback was that everyone found the presentation fascinating and were amazed how Blackmore Ricotech’s processes ensure that nothing ends up in landfill which the pupils said was quite an achievement! Just another day at the office for Blackmore Ricotech.
Everyone had a chance to explore the inside of an XBox, learn what a motherboard is and what it does inside a machine, how materials are processed and sorted and how old items can be broken down and useful parts sold to be made into something new. Becky Craig, Year 4 teacher said: “It is truly incredible what goes on the behind the scenes and what a great difference it makes to our environment too. The children were full of questions at the end and I won’t be surprised if parents report their children are suddenly show an interest in what is being thrown away at home.”
