BLACKMORE – March 1996

Simon Barfoot began trading as Blackmore Computers Limited – renting a desk and a telephone from a company in Mere, Wiltshire and buying and selling refurbished laptops

Blackmore Computers Ltd formed


July 1996

Took on first member of staff!

June 1997

Moved to new 1,000 sq ft premises in Zeals, Wiltshire.


April 1998

Outgrew Zeals so relocated to 2,000 sq ft office and workshop in Wincanton, Somerset.

August 1999

Continued to expand and moved to 4,000 sq ft office, workshop and storage in Castle Cary, Somerset.

October 2000

Outgrew Castle Cary so moved to South Newton, Wiltshire. 8,000 sq ft office, workshop and warehouse. Bought first forklift!

February 2002

Business was going well so it was time to commit to our large purpose built premises at Chitterne Dairy, Wiltshire. 26,000 sq ft processing centre with additional 1/2 acre yard. Focus shifted away from trading and towards re-use and refurbishment of redundant equipment sourced directly from businesses. Set up dedicated data wiping and auditing section. Won contracts with leasing companies to manage end of lease assets. Developed relationships with insolvency practitioners,retail returns businesses (reverse logistics) and manufacturer repair centres.

March 2006

Started shift in business strategy to define the company as a data safe reuse recycler and planned to grow electronics, electrical and WEEE parts recovery. Sought opportunities to move into other markets such as comms, technology, telephony and infrastructure. Expanded our asset refurbishment ability and started selling components on eBay.

RICOTECH August 2006

RICOTECH Ltd established by Richard Connock in order to undertake a major IT refresh project for Thames Water.  Working from a redundant dairy farm at his home address, business quickly grew and new clients came on-board.

February 2009

Ricotech sign contracts with SOMERSET NHS and due to their specific reporting requirements, a bespoke auditing and tracking system was developed in-house.



BluSkye Industries Ltd established


February 2010

BluSkye began trading from a home office, consulting on WEEE projects and advising retailers and waste management businesses regarding Best Practice in the management of their waste electrical items.


October 2010

The business grows and re-locates to a new premises on the outskirts of Warminster to better manage the collection of WEEE from electrical retailers.


March 2011

Continued success leads to further expansion and the acquisition of specialist machinery and equipment.  The BluSkye customer base grows to incorporate other sectors and larger retail chains.


June 2011

Following rapid and continued expansion, Ricotech commission a purpose-built premises to accommodate their growing requirements.


February 2012

BluSkye outgrows its existing location and moves to purpose built premises on the outskirts of Bath, at the same time becoming an Approved Authorised Treatment Facility through the Environment Agency.  Customer base diversifies further to include large public sector organisations, universities and schools.


April 2012

Following a successful application for grant funding from WRAP, Bluskye establish a domestic appliance refurbishment department, extending the premises to incorporate a workshop and testing facility.  At the same time, a water recycling system is installed for sustainability.


May 2012

Ricotech achieve ISO 9001 and 14001 accreditation

October 2012

The re-use department expands and begins selling to local, national and international retailers via eBay.  IT becomes and important WEEE stream and Bluskye began talks with Blackmore


October 2012

By 2012, Blackmore had ISO 9001, small AATF status and a strong core client base regularly supplying a flow of all electrical and technology equipment for refurbishment and recycling. At this point we started working closely with BluSkye Industries – a young rapidly expanding WEEE processor.

Another major refresh project with Thames Water facilitated further expansion and Ricotech’s premises were extended.

Ricotech take over ACTIVE IT, a Bristol based online retailer of refurbished laptops and PCs

Ricotech achieve ADISA accreditation – one of only 35 companies across Europe to meet these exacting standards of data destruction and secure IT recycling.

August 2014

Following numerous successful business deals and co-operative activities, the owners of Blackmore and BluSkye merged the companies under the name Blackmore IT and combined the businesses entirely into our Chitterne Dairy premises. Full large AATF status was achieved and processing ramped up significantly, a 4 fold increase in a very short space of time.

June 2015

Blackmore and Ricotech directors starting discussions on mutually beneficial channel and market opportunities culminating in the decision to merge the businesses and create a larger group to benefit from the expertise, skill sets and strengths each offered to the other.


December 2015

BLACKMORE RICOTECH formed and set about becoming a pioneer in technology recycling and the intelligent choice of partner for the secure reprocessing of your redundant equipment. BLACKMORE RICOTECH can effectively manage all of your redundant IT, telecoms and domestic or commercial electrical equipment through our two technical recycling centres.
